Being a newborn spirit can be compared to being a newborn child. As an infant must be fed to grow, so you must also feed your spirit. I Peter 2:2 - As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow. NKJV II Peter 3:18 - But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. NIV Your spirit needs and desires the pure milk of God's Word in order to grow. Although spiritual growth is mainly dependant on the Holy Spirit, there are many spiritual disciplines that you need to put into daily practice. As you regularly practice these spiritual disciplines, the Holy Spirit will begin to do His work. Jesus tells us about "The Counselor" that His Father will send, who will teach and guide you, and help you to build your "Personal Relationship" with God, through Jesus. John 14:26 - "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." NIV Some of the spiritual disciplines that you need to add to your daily life are - reading, studying, and meditating on the Bible - prayer - and worship. Other disciplines that you need to consider are - confession - journaling - devotions - serving - giving - and tithing. You also need to become a member of a local Bible believing church where you can worship in a corporate setting, and become involved and accountable to other fellow believers. The Holy Spirit will also guide you into other areas of disciplines such as - fasting - self denial - solitude - etc... As you read, study, and meditate on God's Word, you will begin to learn more about spiritual disciplines, and how they will help you in your spiritual growth process. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 - Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks. Psalm 147:1 - Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful. NKJV II Timothy 3:16-17 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. NKJV Hebrews 10:24-25 - And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together. NKJV As you begin to add spiritual disciplines to your daily life, you will work towards a spiritual health, well-being, and stability (which some call maturity), that brings true joy, peace, and purpose to your life...
