1 Corinthians 2:14 - The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Non-Christians cannot understand God, and they cannot grasp the concept that God's Spirit lives in believers. Just as a tone-deaf person cannot appreciate fine music, the person that rejects God cannot understand God's beautiful message. Thus - if a person wants to fix their problems God's way, he must first believe in God, and accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. If you are a non-believer - Click Here. (Opens a new window). We learned in the last lesson - "The Heart of the Problem" - that our feelings come from our actions, which are directly linked to the issues in our heart. These issues of our heart have caused us to act in sinful ways, causing feelings of guilt, shame, anger, bitterness, etc... which ultimately lead to the problems in our life. In order to solve these issues, we must confess our sins, repent (which means to turn away from), and ask God to change our hearts. As you continue to study God's Word and devote your life to Him, He will remove the old sinful desires from your heart, and replace them with new desires that are pleasing to Him. Psalm 119:165 - Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. This is a clear cut scripture on how to attain peace of mind. If we love God and obey His laws, we will have "Great Peace". As we learn to ascertain our feelings as a direct result of our sinful actions, we can get to the core issues in our heart. As we ask God to forgive us, we find the peace and joy that gives us strength to turn from sin and fight off temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. Wrong desires and temptations happen to everyone, and these temptations can be resisted with God's help. Your first step to victory is when you flee from the tempting situation and turn your heart to God, asking Him to show you His way of dealing with the situation. God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. God knows and understands our problems. He knows our sins and the sinful nature of our heart. He has given us a way to resolve our problems by obeying His laws. He has given us a way to cleanse our conscience through confession and repentence. As you put God first in all you do, love Him above all else, and continue to seek Him and His kingdom, His Spirit will do a mighty work in you. You will be renewed on the inside. The Holy Spirit will begin to renew your mind, your heart, and your spirit. You will be able to handle life issues with the peace and joy of Jesus, being content in all situations... Phillipians 4:12 - ...I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation. Learn to rely on God's promises and Christ's power to help you be content. If you are always wanting and needing more, ask God to remove those desires and teach you contentment in every circumstance. God will supply ALL your needs in a way that He knows is best for you. Look at your life from God's point of view. Focus on what God wants you to do, not what you feel you should have. Be thankful and grateful for the things that God has given you. Your contentment lies in your perspective, priorities, and your source of power. Phillipians 4:13 - I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
