Victory Begins in Your Mind

Romans 12:2 - Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - His good, pleasing, and perfect will. NIV

Everything you do is motivated by the things that go into your mind. Your thoughts affect your feelings, and your feelings control your actions and behaviors. You must be aware of the things around you that are having an influence on your thoughts.

Take a look at the worldly things around you, and make a conscious decision to avoid those things that are not of God’s will. Today’s media for example, has been infiltrated with worldly standards that are contrary to the Word of God.

Do an honest inventory of your habits, friends, and personal items such as books, music, movies, etc., and get rid of the negative influences that might be leading you into wrong behavior patterns and a sinful lifestyle.

Colossians 2:8 - See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. NIV

There are many scriptures throughout the Bible that tell us not conform to the ways of this world. On a deeper level, you need to get rid of old worldly behaviors and customs such as, pride, selfishness, covetousness, arrogance, etc…

Colossians 3:5 - Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. NIV

Colossians 3:8 - But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. NIV

As you begin to put off these worldly characteristics and start to fill your mind with the Word of God, the Holy Spirit will begin His work of re-educating and renewing your mind.

James 1:21 - Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. NIV

As you lay aside the evil and wickedness, it is absolutely essential that you get God’s Word planted into the soil of your heart. This will lay the foundation for the spiritual growth you will need to claim your victory in the Lord.

This foundation, which comes from the renewing your mind and planting God’s word in your heart, is the basis for your continued spiritual growth, and relationship with the Lord.
