Engrafted Word

James 1:21 - Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. NIV

To humbly accept means that when something from God's Word does not line up with what you think or believe, you cast out your thoughts and accept God's Word as the truth. The NKJV say's this is receiving God's Word with meekness.

James 1:21 - ... receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. NKJV

Becoming a Christian means to be transformed. We are no longer a part of this worlds way of living - we must be different than the world. James tells us that the implanted (or engrafeted) word is able to save our souls, which is another way of saying - transformation and/or renewing the mind.

When we said "YES" to Jesus our spirit was changed instantly, but we must work at renewing our mind by the engrafting of God's Word.

As an example, if a farmer wants to engraft one part of a plant to another, he must first "CUT OUT" a part of the plant he wants to engraft to make room for the new. He must then bandage the parts together, and then very carefully tend to the graft to get it to take and grow.

The same is true with us when we want to engraft God's Word. We must "CUT OUT" our old way of thinking to make room for God's way. We must cut out our worldly beliefs and replace them with God's reality. When we believe something else, we must recognize God's Word is right, and receive with meekness (humbly accept) His Word as truth.

Then we must carefully tend the new roots through daily spiritual disciplines. Spending time in God's Word, reading, studying, meditating, praying, confessing, repenting, etc...
