Set Your Mind

Romans 8:5/6 - For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirt, (set their minds on) the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. NKJV

These verses basically divide people into two categories - those who are carnally minded, and those who are spiritually minded. The carnal mind leads to death - not necessarily physical death - but seperation from God.

We need to "Set our Minds" on the spiritual if we are to experience the life of peace and joy that comes from following Jesus, and centering our daily lives aroung God and His Word.

Colossians 3:1/2 - Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Col 3:2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Here, we are encouraged to "Set our Hearts and our Minds"... Setting our hearts on things above means striving to put God's priorities, first and foremost, into daily practice in our lives.

Setting our Minds on things above means to concentrate on the eternal rather than the temporal.

Temporal can be describes as - earthly - secular - mortal - human - materialistic - etc...

The word "Eternal" as referred to from the Bible, is from the Greek word "Zoe". This is not necessarily referring to everlasting life, or the fact that every spirit lives forever. Zoe (eternal life) refers to "The God Kind of Life" - or, the quality of life and where it came from (God). It is the life "as God has it" - or, the very life that God has in Himself.

We can experience this "God Kind of Life" as we set our minds on God, His Word and His will for our lives.
